5 Free Activities for Bank Holiday Weekend

The sun is set to shine for the Bank Holiday Weekend in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset & Wales. Here are our top picks of fun activities all of the family can enjoy for free.

A Trip to the Beach

We are blessed with so many fantastic beaches near our UK Holiday Parks, you'll be spoiled for choice when deciding where to go. Here are a few things to remember when packing for a day out at the beach: Sun cream - even on a dull day the sun can burn your skin, plenty of water to keep hydrated, a towel or mat to sit on, fishing nets, buckets & spades, buoyancy aids for your little ones and change for an ice cream. Don't forget to take all of your rubbish home at the end of the day.

Widemouth Beach

A Picnic by a Lake

What could be more relaxing than setting yourself up by a lake for some tasty homemade treats. Our favourite lakes near our parks are Tamar Lakes near Widemouth Bay, Nance Lakes near St Ives and Wistlandpound Reservoir near our holiday parks in Combe Martin. Of course we also have our very own lake at Trelawne.

A Walk Along the Coast

Our parks are perfectly located to access the South West Coastal Path and the Wales Coastal Path. You can choose from some challenging walks like Lynmouth to Combe Martin which includes the highest point on the South West Coastal Path or some slightly easier ones like Berry Head to Sharkham Point or Carbis Bay to St Ives.

Crabbing on the Quay

This is a great activity for children and adults alike and can be enjoyed near many of our parks - some top spots include Looe, Brixham, Ilfracombe and St Ives. Here our top tips for crabbing: Only use sea water in your bucket and change the water frequently as the temperature will rise, no more than 3 crabs to a bucket, keep your bucket in the shade, remove any crabs that are fighting, be careful when putting the crabs back at the end of the day.

A Barbecue

Who doesn't love a sausage or burger straight off the barbecue? You are welcome to bring a BBQ to enjoy when staying at our holiday parks, all we ask is that you raise disposable BBQs from the ground so they don't scorch the grass or burn your decking, that you are respectful of your neighbours and that you dispose of the embers safely afterwards making sure they are completely cold. Remember, never take a BBQ into your tent or caravan even if you think it has gone out.
